Shank Cat's Barbeque

I took this picture of a little eatery down south of Shreveport, LA.  It has turned into one of the most popular eating places in the area, mostly with blue collar drilling rig workers.  But they have good tastes, too.  Shank Cats has some of the best Que around.  As far as atmosphere... well... see for yourself.  Story is that the building was once a school building, no telling how many years old.  As the school moved on and built bigger and better things, this was bought by a family and moved to this lot and set up.  Shank Cat was what the grand children called their grandmother, and just like all grandmother's, she knew how to cook good.  I think Shank Cat is gone now, but the family still run her restaurant with her recipes.

  10. Looks very rustic. I've never really eaten in a traditional US-style restaurant like that. Will have to give it a try sometime.

  16. my theory on bbq joints; the better the decor, the worse the food... a place looks like this, always has great barbecue...

  20. Reminds me of a place I ate it once called Coyote Bluff. It had toilets outside with flowers growing in them and a giant bathtub full of ice and beer as you walked in. The place was a complete dive, but damn was it delicious.

  21. A place that looks like that can only be used for two things: Great BBQ or cheap, cold beer. Wish I was closer, love the dive joints like that!
